Lindenwold School District

Lindenwold School District – A School Building Project

Located in Lindenwold New Jersey, the school district contacted ARMM Associates regarding redesigns of their school’s 4 and 5 for reroofing applications that were done previously by another architectural firm. The prior architect provided a specification that could not be met due to cost of the project skyrocketing to $100,000 over budget. Armm was asked to provide a process to bring the project back within budget and to maintain the building in a watertight condition. Armm then specified a generic TPO membrane that went over building 4 and 5′s original roofing system. This approach brought the project back into budget, thus saving the School Board approximately $30,000.

Once the initial project was completed, the Board of Education requested Armm provide a concept to incorporate solar applications for all school buildings in the district. Following Armm’s study, which included structural evaluation and solar layout for each and every building, the documents were bid as a part of a Power Purchase Agreement to a select group of bidders.

The design was implemented and installed following strict compliance to ARMM’s drawings and specifications. It is projected the district will have an approximate savings of almost $150,000 per year for the next 15 years. Approximately overall savings through the district will be over about $1.2 million with not only the level of rebates but also the amount of energy saved.

How the project team deals with these unforeseen issues determines whether efforts will continue or dwindle.
